Frasers Property UK’s virtual triathlon raises thousands for FareShare

Frasers Property UK is proud to announce that they have raised a further £4,100 for FareShare, the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

The funding, which was raised through a virtual team triathlon, follows Frasers Property UK’s previous fundraising campaign earlier in the year, ‘Do Something Good in May’, which raised over £20,000 for the charity.

The virtual team triathlon took place on Friday, 27 November and saw Frasers Property UK employees divided into groups of three where they collectively had to cover 40k by either running, walking or cycling.

For each employee who took part, £100 was donated to FareShare. The campaign forms part of the ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives as well as acting as a great team engagement tool throughout the UK coronavirus lockdown.

The donation from Frasers Property UK comes at a crucial time for FareShare as demand for the charity’s service has skyrocketed since the outbreak of COVID-19. Since March, the charity has more than doubled the amount of food it distributes – now enough food for over two million meals a week.

Ilaria del Beato, CEO of Frasers Property UK, commented: “Giving back to local communities is something we put at the heart of our business and a charity such as FareShare really embodies that spirit. It has played a crucial role in helping to support some of the most vulnerable people in society. We have an active team at Frasers Property UK, so a virtual team triathlon seemed the perfect fundraising opportunity whilst also being a great way for us to stay connected and have some fun whilst we are in lockdown.

“I am immensely proud of the funding we have raised for FareShare from this latest campaign and our ‘Do Something Good in May’ initiative. The team is always thinking of innovative ways to support local communities and charities. We’re looking forward to starting our Christmas campaigns across our assets over the next few weeks.”

FareShare is made up of 18 independent organisations, taking good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and diverting it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food it redistributes is nutritious, in-date and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week, we provide enough food to create over a million meals for vulnerable people.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, over 1,000 new charities have been signed up to provide food parcels for vulnerable people and families.

Becky Ettinger, Head of Fundraising at FareShare, said: “We are grateful to have the continued support of Frasers Property UK, through raising funds they will help at a critical juncture and ensure that we can get more food out to vulnerable individuals and families across the UK.”

Frasers Property UK is a business unit of Frasers Property Limited which develops, owns and manages residential and commercial property in the UK. It has a portfolio of business parks across the UK.
